You can export or permanently delete everything AutomateSEO holds about you, at any time, without asking us. This page explains how, what happens, and how long it takes.
1. Export your data
In the app: Settings → Data and Privacy → Export my data.
You get a JSON file containing your account details, business profile, all articles and their content, media records, connections (with credentials removed), credit transaction history, keywords, clusters and settings. This satisfies your right to data portability under Article 20 of the UK and EU GDPR.
Published articles also remain on whatever platform you published them to. Deleting your AutomateSEO account does not remove them from your own website.
By email: privacy@automateseo.app. We respond within one month, free of charge.
2. Delete your data
Option A — Delete individual items
Delete individual articles, media, connections, feeds or clusters from within the app at any time. Deleted items are removed immediately and purged from backups within 90 days.
Option B — Disconnect an integration
Settings → Publishing or Settings → Social, then disconnect. This immediately deletes the stored access token and credentials for that platform. Content already published to that platform stays there — you control that from the platform itself.
Option C — Delete your entire account
Settings → Data and Privacy → Delete my account.
You will be asked to type your email address to confirm. This is irreversible.
Before you do it: export your data first, and claim any refund you are entitled to under the Refund Policy. Unused credits are forfeited on deletion and cannot be recovered afterwards.
Option D — Ask us
Email privacy@automateseo.app from your account email address, with "Delete my account" in the subject. We will confirm your identity, action it, and email you when it is done. We complete these within 30 days and usually within a few days.
3. What gets deleted
Deleting your account removes:
- your account, login and authentication records;
- your business profile, brand, services, locations and contact details;
- every article, outline, cluster, summary and enhancement session;
- all generated images, audio and video, including the underlying files in object storage;
- spokesperson records, voice samples and uploaded reference images;
- all publishing and social connections, and the encrypted credentials for them;
- RSS feeds, saved filters, keywords, ranking history and analytics records;
- site pages, sitemaps, internal link records and site audits;
- agent conversations and automation rules;
- your credit balance and any remaining credits.
4. What we keep, and why
We are legally required to retain a small amount of data even after deletion:
| Retained | Why | For how long |
|---|---|---|
| Invoices and payment records (name, email, amount, date, tax) | UK tax and company law | 6 years from the end of the relevant financial year |
| Record that an account with your email address was deleted, and when | To prove we honoured your request, and to prevent abuse of the refund policy | 6 years |
| Marketing suppression entry (a hash of your email) | So we never email you again | Indefinitely — this is the record of your opt-out |
| Security and abuse logs where an investigation is open | Legitimate interest in preventing fraud | Until the investigation closes, then deleted |
This retention is required by law or necessary for the establishment or defence of legal claims, which are recognised exceptions to erasure under Article 17(3) of the UK and EU GDPR. It contains no content you created.
5. Timing
| Stage | When |
|---|---|
| In-app deletion request | Data removed from live systems immediately |
| Email deletion request | Actioned within 30 days, usually within a few days |
| Removal of generated media from object storage | Within 30 days |
| Removal from encrypted backups | Within 90 days, as backups roll off |
| Removal from subprocessors | Within 30 days; AI providers purge API inputs on their own cycle, typically 30 days |
Backups are never restored into production except in a disaster recovery event, and if one occurs any records already deleted are deleted again immediately afterwards.
6. Data held by platforms you connected
Deleting your AutomateSEO account does not delete:
- articles published to your website, GitHub repository or WordPress install;
- posts published to Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile or YouTube;
- data held by Stripe about your payments, which Stripe retains under its own obligations.
You control those directly through each platform. We remove our access to them, and delete the credentials, but we cannot delete content from a platform once it is published there.
Meta platforms. If you connected Facebook, Instagram or Threads, we store the page or account identifier, an encrypted access token, and post records. Disconnecting, or deleting your account, removes all of it from our systems immediately. You can also revoke our access from Facebook Settings → Apps and Websites, which has the same effect.
7. If someone else's personal data is in your account
If you are a business customer, personal data you put into the platform — client contacts, author details, spokesperson likenesses — is data for which you are the controller and we are your processor. If one of those individuals asks us directly to delete their data, we will redirect them to you and tell you within 5 business days. See our DPA.
8. Contact
Deletion, export and any other data rights request: privacy@automateseo.app
We do not charge for these requests and we respond within one month, as required by Article 12(3). If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to your local supervisory authority in the EU.
